Bob Jacquart joined his dad’s company – Jacquart Manufacturing - at the age of 19. He’s been there ever since. Of course, the place looks a lot different now than it did back then.
Jacquart Fabric Products started as a canvas repair and small custom bag business. When Bob came on board as manager, there was one other employee. He enjoyed the work, and soon expanded a little, learning to make custom boat covers and re-upholster furniture.
In 1983 he bought the company and changed the name to Jacquart Fabric Products. In those days JFP had 8 employees. Today it has 160.
Bob’s job has changed quite a bit, but his values haven’t. Family, service and quality remain at the heart of all he does. Bob’s wife Denise and his daughters Kari and Gina are key to his life. Kari joined the business right after college in 1998. And Gina and her husband Dave joined in 2009 after 11 years in Dallas.
Business is Bob’s other true love. He’s a lifelong learner who keeps up with leading practices and technologies through reading, attending seminars and – most importantly – learning from others. Inquire about his hobbies and he’ll ask “Can’t my business be my hobby?”
Bob believes in giving back to his community. He’s served on a number of boards, such as the local Wells Fargo Bank Board, a term on the Minneapolis Federal Reserve's Business Advisory Board and 10 years on the board of Northern Initiatives.
Today Bob is a member of Michigan's Council for Labor and Economic Growth and part of its Entrepreneurial Subcommittee. He’s also a member of Northern Michigan University's Business Advisory Council and the Board Chair at Gogebic Community College.
Bob contributes financially to many organizations both regionally and internationally. The one closest to his heart is Ciudad de los Niños, a children's homeless shelter in Mazatlán, Mexico.
Bob’s commitments to family, quality and community service have made an indelible mark on JFP. If he has his way, Jacquart Fabric Products will continue to tread this path long after he’s ready to turn over the reins.
